Bouddhanath (Bodnath) Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal

The story behind "Bouddhanath (Bodnath) Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal"

One of the largest Stupas in the world, the Bouddha/Bodnath one is beautiful and nowadays located in the city of Kathmandu.

40 meters high, the all seeing eyes of the Buddha are painted on the central tower from which thousands of coloured prayerflags are attached. Buddhist monks (many Tibetan refugees) circle the Stupa (always leftwards/clockwise) and dozens of little shops and monasteries surround this wonderful place.

It was located outside the city until only a few decades ago, but has now been swallowed by the urbanisation.
