Really nice shot. Beautiful portrait full of emotion & humanity. I like the colors and lighting, too.

The story behind "Volcano Guide in Guatemala"

In 2000 I took some Spanish classes and visited my friends in Guatemala. In the weekends we went hiking up the many volcanoes that sharp -and have tortured- this poor but wonderful country.
One day Jaime had other appointments, and he dropped us off at the shabby village at the bottom of one of these volcanoes, telling us that we should ask for the local guide. After being sent from one dusty shack to the other, somebody understood who we were looking for and took us to this man.

This friendly man did not say more than a few words, was 72 years young and he thoroughly kicked our behinds when we went up the volcano, as he was much faster in his rubber boots than we were on our pro hiking boots :-)

I do not remember how much he asked for his time, but it was not much and we gladly doubled it afterwards. Friendly as all the people, he posed quickly after the trip. Scanned from some old kodagold film, shot July 2000.
