Istanbul is really a wonderful city, physically and culturally separating Europe from India, the 'west' from the 'east'. When visiting the Blue Mosque, I noticed these 2 women, showing the culture mix. Hair covered, but shooting pictures with their cheap cell-phone. Not exactly best of both worlds in my view -rather the worst-, but a joyful sight nevertheless.
People on this small planet are not so different from each other as some would like you to believe. After all, if we are not afraid of other people and cultures, then who would buy their need for wars & weaponry, marketed by old religious texts and promises of pleasant afterlifes? Whether you believe in the latter or not, you live now and on the same earth as everybody else. See the world before you judge it, do not let others force their judgment onto you. And if you cannot physically, politically, ideologically or financially want or afford it to do so in person, then at least read about it and listen to other travelers and not to people who do not have or have never used their passport and shout from their ivory towers (this happens in all parts of the world, there is not much difference in their speeches) as they simply cannot have a clue..
